The main goal of Digital Optics Center (DOC) is to develop courses for digital optics education, and to promote digital optics to industry. Digital optics is mostly based on the use of an optoelectronic semiconductor device (spatial light modulator; SLM). Since digital optics combines optics and digital computing, it has a lot of abilities that cannot be realized by conventional optics. As the technology of the new era, digital optics can be applied to:
Advanced Imaging: lensless imaging, single-pixel imaging, super-resolution imaging, holographic 3D imaging
Display: VR/AR techniques, naked-eye 3D display, light field display, holographic 3D display
Optical Communication: wavelength selective switch (WSS)
Optical storage: holographic data storage, near-field optical storage
Semiconductor fabrication and inspection: maskless lithography, 3D inspection
Laser processing: beam shaping, multi-beam parallel processing, super-resolution processing
Our main mission right now is to develop and lecture three courses of digital optics in basic-level, advanced-level and professional-level, respectively. We have research projects on SLM-based applications. We also cooperate with companies to integrate digital optical technology to industry.
